The use of BIM has promised to deliver tremendous benefits for construction, and as momentum builds it is beginning to deliver on those promises. It already provides benefits in areas such as clash detection, estimating and pre-fabrication. But the growing size of BIM files has made it increasingly difficult for the various architects, engineers and contractors to coordinate and collaborate as they should; and the lack of a specific solution to transfer data at turnover causes inefficiencies.
BIMfx was created to change all that. Using proprietary technologies, BIMfx allows the syncing and updating of BIM files in a fraction of the time it takes today. This speeds coordination and improves the overall BIM process. BIMfx also takes the data that building operators need, organizes it, and makes it easy to access through the viewing of a BIM model or porting information to a CMMS solution. Building owners now have a centralized, organized repository for the data they most need.
BIMfx is a practical solution that works in reality – not just in theory. Contractors, builders and owners finally have a tool that delivers on the promise of BIM, and that means:
• Faster syncing of BIM models, making remote coordination a possibility
• Shorter schedule for data migration to a CMMS system
• Easier data management through a dynamic repository
BIM files are getting larger all the time and this presents a coordination challenge. It simply isn’t reasonable to upload 100+MB files over a network. So when users are making frequent model changes, it is difficult to ensure a federated model has all the latest versions. We’re back to exchanging USB memory sticks or using sneaker net drives.
BIMfx addresses this challenge by only syncing the portion of a model that has changed, rather than the entire model. This dramatically reduces the amount of data transfer required, and makes uploading frequent changes over a network feasible. With BIMfx, large BIM files can finally be coordinated through the cloud.
When a project is being turned over, it is difficult to ensure that all the key facilities data is being turned over as well. Owners rarely have the time to check for completeness, and they have even less time to check for good organization of data.
BIMfx makes this a problem of the past. Linking directly from reviewed submittal and closeout data happen by using intelligent indexing techniques within the StratusVue. You can be sure that the data they need is there and that it will be easy to find. No more sifting through paper binders or searching file folders on a CD-ROM: the information is easy to find and available on-demand.
Construction Building Operations Information Exchange (COBie) is a data format standard that was designed to transfer the same type of information useful once the asset is in service. However, since it has primarily been based on spreadsheets and isn’t linked to project or document management solutions, COBie has been difficult to implement in practice.
BIMfx builds upon COBie concepts and improves on it by using a more powerful and dynamic database tool, and by entering the data during the submittal process. StratusVue enables your team to decide how much or little of the information is needed for your environment and then requires project users to fulfill the data requirements.
Technology improvements have made transferring data faster and easier than ever before, so why is the migration of as-built data from construction to operations still so difficult? The challenge lies in collecting and capturing the necessary data in the first place – not in transferring it. And data capture is all about one thing: the process.
StratusVue addresses this challenge by collecting the right data during construction, rather than trying to gather it at project closeout. When BIMfx is used as part of the StratusVue System, trades and users enter additional information with their submittals when the effort is minimal and the chances of success much higher. That information is then used by BIMfx.
This practical process-driven approach sets BIMfx apart from other solutions and helps users receive the data they need for operational success.
"StratusVue’s BIMfx solution is a true game changer for the construction industry - allowing project teams to take full advantage of all the project information, documentation, and data that is collected during the life of the construction effort and rapidly repurpose it for the Owner. With BIMfx they can now leverage that information for operation of the facility within days and weeks as opposed to months and years."
